Swedish massage is the most well-known type of massage. Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a technique in which deep finger pressure and slow strokes are used to reach the deep muscles and connective tissues of the body, releasing tension and improving blood circulation. As opposed to other forms of massage, deep tissue massage breaks up and releases scar tissue buildup that, without being treated, causes pain, inflammation and decreased range of motion. This is very beneficial to individuals suffering from chronic muscle pain. Discomfort is not uncommon during a deep tissue massage and it is important to alert the therapist should you experience pain outside of our comfort level. Individuals can be fairly sore after a deep tissue massage, but any soreness from the massage should disappear within a day or two. Sports massages may be given to athletes before during, or after an athletic event. Swedish massage techniques are used, in addition to deep tissue massage methods. A massage following an event helps to alleviate stress, promote flexibility, release acid within the muscles, and decrease the amount of swelling and inflammation.
